 JAZZ BAND

Sax

The TMS Music Department is very excited to offer a Jazz Band program again! Our instructor, Mr. Kyle Korb, is the Drum Major of the UConn Marching Band, is a student teacher at THS this year, and is a saxophonist. Jazz Band is a club designed to introduce students to making jazz music. Students must have experience in playing an instrument to join, but do not need experience in playing jazz. We will meet on Wednesdays from 2:30pm to 4pm on the TMS stage. Rehearsals will start Wednesday, October 13th. Students will need to be picked up after rehearsal because we do not have a late bus available at this time.  Performance dates are to be announced soon, so be on the lookout for further information. Mr. Korb is very excited for the opportunity to introduce jazz music to your students!

MODEL UN

Tolland Middle School's award winning Model UN program will run again this year!  Over the last three years, several TMS students have won awards for their performance at the Model UN conference in March. If you are interested in global communities, role playing and/or debating important issues, the Model UN Club might be for you.  Students will meet after school once a month through December, twice a month in January, and weekly through February and March, then back to once a month from April through June. The club involves participation in a full-day Model UN conference on a Saturday in late March.

SCHOOL STORE

Store

Students plan sales, take inventory, order supplies, count money, make signs, plan advertisements on posters and morning announcements, create a showcase display, organize the store, and socialize with other members.

The School Store is open for business every morning during homeroom period.

Three to four store workers will be scheduled each day to sell our items to other students. It's a fun group of students who enjoy the process of working at a store in a school setting.

sCRAP1sCRAP2

The Scrapbooking Club provides students with an opportunity to work on their personal scrapbooks or create a new one. They may also work on handmade cards.  New techniques will be taught and ideas will be shared.  Each student works at their own pace.  Many items such as die cuts, paper, stickers, embellishments, stamps and inks have been generously donated.  We also have a die cut machine, cutters, fancy scissors and punches.  Students need to supply their own adhesives and pictures, as well as a 12" X 12" carry case to transport supplies and finished pages.  The Scrapbooking Club is also a great way to socialize with friends after school while preserving your memories..

STUDENT COUNCIL

Student Council consists of seventh and eighth grade students who are looking to make a difference both in and outside of the TMS school community. We host four dances during the year for seventh and eighth graders, and the majority of all money earned goes towards different charities of the council members' choice. One example of this is our participation in the We are the Children program, a Christmas event run by Gary Craig and 96.5TIC FM. We meet on Mondays during the school year from 2:30 to 3:10.

T.M.S. NEWS AND MEDIA CLUB

The TMS News & Media Club meets once a week on Wednesdays, from 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.,
in the Library Media Center. The purpose of this club is to create a multimedia student news organization that will report on the great things going on at TMS. Students involved in the program will have the opportunity to write about school events, conduct interviews and learn how to use camcorders and digital cameras to capture the action. The club will work as a team to collect information and report on the school’s events and create a weekly news broadcast for the school community that will be posted on the TMS News Wiki. The web address for the wiki is: TMSNews.wikispaces.com.

All students are expected to follow the Acceptable Use Policy for Technology set forth in the student handbook.

Due to the nature of the club, there may be days when students may choose to stay after school to interview students in other clubs or document school events.  Students are required to follow the Student After-school Policy and obtain permission from a parent and the school. In the event of a club cancellation announcement, students are to take their regular buses home.
